Summer can wreak havoc on your hair, but you can keep it healthier by following these guidelines:

  • Use a Wet Brush for detangling. Wet Brush pro is great  for brushing out tangles without pulling, tugging, or pain. They don’t look any different than any other vent brush, but they are!!  They are miraculous and I use them in the salon all the time!
  • Always brush from the bottom up. Start with the ends and work your way up to the scalp. I recommend a spray-on detangler as well.
  • Rinse with cold water. Hot water opens the cuticles while cool water closes them down, creating shine and sealing in moisture. Do a quick cool water rinse before getting out of the shower.
  • Get a haircut. Trimming the ends of your hair every 6 to 8 weeks helps prevent splitting.
  • Use low heat when blow drying. Low heat helps prevent  further damage. Also use a heat protecting spray before using a blow dryer or any heat tools. I like Kenra Blow Dry spray.
  • Don’t shampoo every day. Shampooing every day removes natural oils and proteins from the hair. Your hair needs them to keep it healthy and shiny. Try using a dry shampoo instead. Your hair will thank you!
  • Apple Cider rinse. Apple cider will help remove build-up and can also help to balance the ph of your hair. Try it once a month.
  • Scalp massage.  Massaging the scalp helps circulation and reduces stress. You can do it on your own by just applying a few drops of fractionated coconut oil onto your scalp. You can also adding some essential oils to the mix. Try one of these: Geranium, Clary Sage, Peppermint, or Rosemary.
  • Do a mask. Once a week you can apply a hair mask to help bring some life back into your hair.
  • Eat well and reduce stress. It’s true what they say “You are what you eat”  Try to slow down a bit when things get hectic, stress can have a negative effect on your hair as well.
